Elsewhere repairs were needed to one of the cab window scissors mechanisms and also some minor wiring repairs underneath the cab floor in No.2 end.

‘324 had its oil analysed by professionals and everything was found to be in good order.

A bigger job was to change one of the water pumps. An internal seal has failed and it was allowing water into the engine oil. We found a large quantity of water in the engine sump and at first we were very worried, as we feared that maybe the engine liner seals had failed but after a lot of investigations we managed to disprove this and after some help from our friends at EWS the problem was traced to the water pump. The loco received an oil change once the repair had taken place.
